Research
During fifteen years of community organizing I watched people change—or not change—and found myself increasingly wondering what makes the difference. I'm now pursuing this question through graduate study of religion and narrative theory: How do stories shape what we're capable of believing and becoming? Can narrative tools—specifically a form of narrative frame-breaking called metalepsis—prompt personal conversions and political transformation? My interests bring together conversion narratives, literature, film, and video games in hopes of finding new strategies for facilitating transformative change.
